Charlottesville, VA Virginia Heritage Apples and Cider
The greater Charlottesville, Virginia area is known for its fine wines and microbeer, but did you know it is also famous for another delicious beverage -- hard cider?
Yes, the Albemarle Cider Works located in nearby North Garden Virginia at Rural Ridge Orchard opened in the summer of 2009 and has been an award-winning cidery every since. Its orchard, Vintage Virginia Apples Orchard and Nursery has over 200 varieties which are selectively used to create the distinctive cider labels.
Many of the varietes are heritage apples which were grown during Colonial times.
In April 2010, in their very first year of production, Albemarle Cider Works won the Beverage Artisan category in Edible Blue Ridge Magazine's "Local Hero Awards," as voted by the magazine's readers. Check their website for numerous special events at the tasting room in 2010.
Would you like to purchase and have shipped to you one of their fine stock of apple trees? Check their website Vintage Virginia Apples to find out the details.
A stay at The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm makes a perfect spot to relax on the terrace or deck and enjoy your purchase of a fine bottle of heritage hard cider.
