Family Reunion Activities
Sugar Hollow is the perfect spot for fun family reunion activities. It is a quiet, peaceful place to stay yet within easy distance of activities to suit every taste.
We have had several family reunions here over the past 15 years and they have universally enjoyed the experience. There are a wealth of activities in our area for folks of all ages.
Our road dead ends 2.5 miles west of our inn at the boundary of the Shenandoah National Park. From that point there are 2 hiking trails on old gravel road beds. (free access) The trails proceed up 2 hollows coming out on the AT and Skyline Drive at either Black Rock Gap or Turks Gap.
The south entrance into the park is a 20 minute drive from the Inn at the point where US250 and I-64 cross the Blue Ridge at Rock Fish Gap.From that point you can also enter the Blue Ridge Parkway, (again, free access) and the first 30 miles south is National Forest with many hiking trails, overlooks and a ranger station.
At the south end of our county, at Scottsville, there is canoeing and tubing on the James River. Quite fun on a hot summer day.
Within 30 minutes of the Inn there are 15 wineries, open daily, for tours and tastings.
3) Historical Sites - Presidential homes and Civil War
The U.S. presidents' homes, Monticello, Ashlawn and Montpelier are open daily for tours. There are also tours of the original grounds of UVA which have been maintained in the fashion they were constructed in the 1820's. There are several Civil War sites within a 2 hour drive from the Inn -- Appomatox, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, and Fredricksburg.
4) Shopping and Restaurants
The Downtown Historic Pedestrian Mall in Charlottesville has over 30 restaurants and a number of boutique shops and indie bookstores and funky used bookstores.
5) Crozet - a local treasure only 10 minutes from Sugar Hollow
There is a wonderful indie bookstore and artisan gallery, Over the Moon, in Crozet where you can purchase anything from the latest books to expertly designed wood, woven and ceramic crafts created by local artisans.
Just across the street is another local shop, the Greenhouse Coffee Shop that has become a local gathering spot and which serves excellent coffee, homemade pastries, and delicious lunch and dinner fare until 7 pm each evening, and 9 pm Friday and Saturday.
In addition, there are 3 nice family restaurants (all quite different from one another) and pizza shops just 10 minutes away in Crozet. (Sorry, but there is no pizza delivery service to Sugar Hollow.)
For summertime comfort our Inn as central air conditioning throughout with many common areas where guests can gather. The room rates include a full country buffet breakfast each morning.
With maps and other information we can help you plan your activities, sight seeing, wine touring and even ballooning!
The bottom line for our inn is that we are in a beautiful, quiet, serene location with easy access to the varied outdoor activities, restaurants, historical sites and shopping that the Charlottesville area has to offer -- all within a short drive.
Give us a call. We would love for you to be our guests!
