Garden Week at Monticello

Calling all gardeners, would-be gardeners or I-like-to-look-but-not get-my-fingernails-dirty gardeners. This is going to be such fun -- and inspiring! If you don't  have reservations at the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm and Monticello for Historic Garden Week you need to make them now.

Monticello will be offering three wonderful programs:

Monday, April 18, 6-8 pm, an elegant garden party for An Evening With Andrea Wulf, award-winning author, who will present her new book, Founding Gardeners. The Revolutionary Generation. Nature and the Shaping of the American Nation. Visitors will also be treated to informal Monticello tours, tours of the flower gardens and (yummo!) champagne and heavy hors d'oeuvres on the West Lawn. What a special evening! There is a fee and tickets are required. (50% of the fee is a tax deductible gift to support the garden programs at Monticello.)

Tuesday, April 19, 10 am.  Listen to a lecture by Peter Hatch, Monticello's director of gardens and grounds, followed by a walking tour of the restored gardens of Monticello where you will learn about the themes that defined Jefferson's interest in horticulture and about the gardens he created on his beloved mountaintop.Free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 19, 2 pm. Thomas Jefferson, Gardener. This is a wonderfully illustrated lecture by Peggy Cornett, Monticello's curator of plants, followed by a most interesting tour of the gardens and nursery at Tufton Farm. Free and open to the public.

Stay at the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm after the garden party on Monday, spend the day at Monticello on Tuesday and return to the Inn for a relaxing evening -- enjoy the swing in our herb garden with a view to Buck's Elbow Mountain or sit on our terrace to watch the changing pink and coral clouds while the sun sets  slowly behind the Blue Ridge.
